Rob Pyne State Member of Parliament for Cairns, Queensland.
Born in Gordonvale Queensland and raised in Edmonton, Rob is certainly a local. He worked in various professions after leaving school, including the Public Trustee, where he was employed until breaking his neck in an accident in 1991, becoming a quadriplegic.
Rob then decided to study to assist him to re-enter the work force, completing a BA in History and Politics at JCU and a Law Degree at QUT.
Rob worked at JCU from 2000 – 2007, resigning to campaign full-time for Council. He was successful in being elected as the Division 3 Councillor on Cairns Regional Council. He has also volunteered for a number of community bodies.
Rob was elected to Cairns Regional Council in 2008 as Councillor for Division 3 and Re-Elected in 2012.
During his time on Council he oversaw:
- the construction of the Cairns Disaster Coordination Centre
- the construction of Stage 1 of the Cairns Bruce Highway Upgrade
- protection of Hillslope land from development.
- completion of the Cleaner Seas Upgrade in Cairns (especially the Woree plant).
At the 2015 state election Rob was elected to represent the electorate of Cairns in the State Parliament.
Rob serves on the Communities, Disability Services and Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Committee.
